There are three separate adjustments within the boost compensator on a VE style pump that you can adjust to optimise the fuel throughout the rev and boost range. Along with diaphragm adjustment that you fella's adjusted, there is also the the 'stop screw' on the diaphragm that adjusts the off idle fuel setting, and the diaphragm spring pre-load adjustment (star wheel) which alters the part boost fueling
On a lot of vehicles with a VE style pump you only need to adjust and optimise these without touching the main fuel screw on the back of the pump.
Just winding the main fuel screw can often lead to excessive EGT's in a very short space of time with less turns than you managed on the old Cummins.
The best instructions I know of for VE pump tuning are here
Australian Land Rover Owners, and while specifically for a Land Rover Tdi, they can be applied to any VE pump application.
