Old Rajay Turbo

I have an old Rajay Turbo 3AA1EE90B1. It is at least 16 years old, but it was barely used and in excellent condition. It has been sitting in a box for all that time since I bought it as part of a used turbo kit. It was checked out by a turbo expert at that time, who said it was in "pristine" condition.

It came with a turbo exhaust manifold with matching flange, a cross over pipe, a draw through intake adapter, and a bunch of plumbing.

I'm building a turbo charged (single) '67 Camaro (327).

Question - should I consider using this Turbo ? As far as I know, this turbo is sized pretty well for my application.

Has the technology embedded in the turbos themselves changed that much over the years ?

They have BUT if its big enough, it will still make good power..
It's the development of engine tuning that has changed over the years!!
Think what power would be made in F1 now ???

Chargers have changed for sure I have one of the latest and greatest running on my Cummins powered Dodge and it runs like a raped ape for a 6k truck! I also have some older technology which is fairly large that will work great as either a twin on the Dodge or as a single on my 462 powered 69 Bird.

I would go with a new turbo, especially since you have a classic car. New turbo's spool faster, especially the ball bearing turbo's and what not. Just my 2 cents, if it is a budget build, by all means go for it.

Good luck, post some pics.

The Rajay turbo is the workhorse of the turbo world.. You can't kill them as long as you feed them cool, clean oil.. The are older tech and as suck, will not spool as quickly nor be as efficent as some of the newer stuff.. the ee90 denotes a E impeller and E hotside the Rajay had numbers like 25 40 55 70 80 90 for turbine a/r and B,F,E. comp sizes.. The old E map is similar to a to4b v and as long as you stay below 35-40 psiand 600-700 HP it will work .. the Rajay name has been from TRW to Rajay to who knows who, last I heard turbonetics had bought the tooling from some guys in texas I think... rajay are used on a lot of private aircraft and as such must pass rigerous QC... and parts are available but pricey.. you have it .. run it ....good luck. dr
