Not bad for a hybrid.

Hmm, How would a hybrid handle a turbo? Has anybody ever seen or heard of anybody doing a turbo on a hybird gas/electric motor?

Wow, that is a sleek looking car. It looks nothing like the old Tercels I drove around the early 80s.

That is the same powertrain that is in the exhisting GS450h... the GS is pretty badass 300+ hp gas motor + 2 electric motors and a ravenoux planetary gear set giving it a two speed cvt... I could only imagine that powertrain in a smaller car. The Active Suspension Stabilizer System is simply amazing (also known as A.S.S.S.)... feels like a go-cart in sport mode.

A hybrid can take to a turbo just like any other gas motor... but that FT-HS/IS350/GS450h gas engine is already 11.8:1 compression... not too boost friendly on pump gas. The good thing about those motors are they are dual injection... they have both direct injection and conventional port injection... but the computers are way too damn sensitive to get away with anything.

Do hybrids feel like driving a standard gas motor?

Nothing like a standard gas motor... take the lexus GS450h for instance... it is the same engine as the GS350. BUT, on top of that, it adds about 150 horsepower electric motors and lots of torque at 0rpm. The CVT keeps it in the powerband at all speeds if you put it to the floor... The hybrid has more power than the Gas engine counterpart... All the lexus hybrids are performance hybrids, better gas mileage is just a side effect.

The suv, the RX400h, is the same engine as an RX330, but has front and rear
electric motors and a CVT. The rear motor/generator gives it on demand awd, and extra power for acceleration... for instance, the awd hybrid 0-60 is faster than the 2wd.

...driving a hybrid is nothing like driving a gas motor, takes a while to get used to feeling like the trans is slipping all the time... but they are actually the simplest transmissions when you take them apart. No friction plates, no bands, no clutches, no solenoids, no valve body, no manual valve.

The CVTs are really weird to drive alright...it just keeps the engine at the target RPM. Many don't realize just how powerful they really are because they lack the peaky torque curve of a gasoline engine. Toyota's doing great stuff with their hybrid technology, I look forward to more offerings in the near future (TUNDRA ).
