Spinning wheels

Hello,

I have a curiosity but i just can't seem to make it a fact and dunno how to fix it. When i drive my RSX Type S (A-Spec) and step heavy foot my second gear burns out but my wheels or the car stutters. Is as if the tires suck at getting grip or my suspension is to stiff, dunno. I made a few phone calls and they told me it was my tires but i think its the wheels are to small (17inches). The tires are Yokohamas 225/45ZR17s. I just ordered sum S-Drive Yokohamas cuz i wore them out. Even when the tires are worn, the car stutters as if the tires aren't getting grip. any ideas why this happens?

Are the tires breaking loose or is the engine bogging? Obviously two very different things, but I couldn't quite understand your problem based on what you wrote.

sorry. the car is brand new just barely has 16,000 miles in it for an 06. No mods, just the A-Spec package which include suspension and summer Yokos (they look like TL wheels). When it rains it doesn't hop that much, it just burns out and slips all around.

My suspension is the regular A-Spec package which are not bad in response (they tend to have a very stiff ride in compare to my RIP 00 Civic's MaxSpeeds coil overs). i think it may actually be my tires but can't be sure until i try other sets. Im planning to get some 19 TSWs with some Falkens 452s. are those tires any good?

here's a pic of what i have now.

If I'm comprehending this correctly, it sounds to me that you're just wheel hopping. Even if you've got the upgraded suspension package, you've still got the stock suspension package and they are meant to be comfortable, even with an "upgraded" package. I would suggest an aftermarket suspension setup and an LSD. Your wheel is bouncing because your springs are still too soft, not too stiff. So, either get something to fix it or stop pressing the gas so hard too fast.
Think about it, when the ground is wet, you just slip tires. When the ground is dry you experience stuttering (wheel hop). It's not just the tire either. It sounds to me that your tires are getting grip by the hopping. They're just able to connect because the springs are the path of least resistance (they are soft and allowing the wheels to go up and down). If your springs were stiff, they wouldn't give as easily and actually push the wheels down, as they are supposed to.

BTW, your wheel size has nothing to do with this. As it was suggested earlier, you'll only add more weight to your wheels by getting more metal over rubber. Sure, you won't spin out as much, but that's because a larger portion of the power is used to turn those heavier round things.
