Hey I'm new and 'm hoping yall could teach me a thing or two
Hey I am new here and an amature in the FI world. Hell Just call me a beginner. I joined this forum to learn everything I can about turbocharging. I've bought a couple books before but it just kinda tells me about engine management and kinda just advertises and tells me the basics of tuning and everything.
I'm trying to think outside of the box in the bmw community and not just go with a supercharger kit outta the box. I am currently in the pre-writeup plan of turbocharging a 2001 325iT I did the equations on Garrett's website and it showed that the GT28RS has the best compression map for the power gains I want. Also I will probably get the AEM F/IC piggyback to control everything. I'm just looking to stop at 350bhp. Once I find more technical data I will post it on here. It's a pain in the ass to try and find VE, AFR, timing, cam degrees, and some other information I might need to successfully calculate any tuning or equipment I need. I was reading some threads on here I currently am just covering my bases and reading just a bunch of 101 stuff for now, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any useful links, books, videos, tutorials or anything so i can kinda master this art. I like to know what the hell is going on before i just jump in a do something. On superchargers, I think most of the m54 engines could support a max of like 10 pounds of boost. but then again it's all different for different types of compressors right? as in the engine or the fuel? Ethanol no, and e85 is just the catagory label for the Z4, kinda like 1999-2005 is e46 for 3 seres e39 for 5 series, etc.
hey thanks man. I saw this book at barns and nobles. I'll go back and check it out some more. You got anymore books? I was just noticing it was published in 1997, and i was wondering if you knew of anymore recent information on the same subject. But thanks again man! |

I haven't found anything newer and better than Corky's book yet, there's so much to digest in his book on just the principles .... his book will give you the basics you need to evaluate most componets of a turbo system. I'm in the middle of three projects (94 turbo Miata , 91 TT Z32, and an 80 911) that keep me researching on such a varied list of subjects that the internet usually ends up being my primary source for info. corky,s book was recommended to me so many times I finally had to buy it.

I'm using an AEM EMS (standalone) on my Miata and a Greddy eManage Ultimate on my Z32. So far the AEM is a lot easier for me to use.
Given the amount of tunability I was doing a standalone seemed better for the Miata (non-turbo to turbo, MAF to MAP, wasted spark dual coil to sequential COP and a whole lotta pressure...). The Z32 is going to be less drastic so a piggy back seemed adequate. I think you will be happy with the AEM, if for no other reason than the fact that they have awesome tech support and great product support. Greddy, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have any support whatsoever but the piggy back scheme is generally pretty simple. |
