MBC vs. EBC?

Can anyone respond that is running an EBC upgraded from their previous MBC?

How much difference in performance and spool up was really noticed in upgrading to an EBC?

Well I can only comment on my experiences with EBC vs. no boost control, which creates pressure in the wastegate actuator similarly to MBC. My turbo definitely spooled faster after setting the gate pressure on my Turbosmart e-Boost. I seem to remember it making a huge difference in low RPM's and when the turbo just starts building boost. I currently have my EBC unhooked but I should be hooking it up soon, I can do a little testing for you if you'd like.

EBC's hold boost till what its set at!!
Mechanical controlers bleed off slowly, open early and slow due to exhaust pressure on gate. Big chance of boost spikes etc... The turbo doesn't really spool quicker, the wastegate doesn't start to open so early which makes them spool harder to set w/g pressure...

You have them backwords. A MBC Ball and spring style will hold the boost in the line not the Wastegate till the last second when it reaches the boost you want to run. *Most* EBC's run on a bleader Vavle system. Similar to a stock one on a mitsubishi and subaru. It just bleads off the air but it does not leave all the pressure out of the line to the WG. that said it can slowly open a little when getting higher Exhaust pressure as well as more boost in the line caused by not bleading off fast enuff.

Yea well there are all sorts of controllers.. Mine's done
through
ECU
with variable switch inside cabin what
ever I set it to, the ECU keeps it there ...
Or holds it shut till desired boost... ECU s Haltech E11v2

I never considered one as a MBC was about 20-40$ and EBC 300+ but now they are coming down in price especially good used ones for 100-150$.

MBCs spike pretty bad from my experience. The ones that do not spike are the ones that will cost you between $100 to $200... usually, Turbosmart MBCs are pretty good with no spiking.

The only issue ive ever heard of is younger dumber people turning up the boost too much since its just the touch of a button. but ive never actually seen it in person. I personally like MBCs more.

That Depends on what car you drive. Take a 2006 WRX, The stock turbo has such small porting that even the use of a catless downpipe you will have huge spiking problems. an MBC (Ball and springs style) will hold boost out of the line (going to the wastgate) till the last second so if you have a turbo that has small porting and can't let out enuff exhaust through the WastGate you will have spike issues
