Mazdaspeed Headache

Thinking that I could do a oe turbo swap in a MS6 (stupid idea) Yeah i blew a stock turbo on a MS6. Well not that bad but not good.

Thing needed:

2 cans of Pb blaster
Assortment of extensions 3/8, and 1/2.
Breaker bar.
Alieve
A third hand LOL.
High tack
assortment of small combo wrenches.
Racheting combo wrenches ( Those damn tight spaces under the mani)

Anyways on with the story. Since my car was smoking not in a good way I went through all the troubleshooting to find the problem. I whittled the problem down to the turbo.

Yes the turbo puked it's guts out.

I talked to Mazda about it they said that it should take about 6.5 hours. I;m thinking that isn't too bad.

I start tearing into it off to a good stat. Get all the heat shields off. I'm thinking this is too easy. Cursed myself. Broke one exhaust mani stud. I can live with that I have some easy outs. The project turned into a 2 day terror. The said part I couldn't get any of the Mazda techs to do this. Should have taken a hint. Oh well.

The least favorite part. The only way to bolt the oil return line is to the turbo first then to the crankcase. 3 hours later after the gasket kept getting shy it came back together. No more smoking turbo.

Actual time to completion approx 17hrs.

Very well documented that the Ko4 turbo on speed 3/6's have issues. Come on over to my forum below and you will see a lot info on this. Mazda WILL warranty this.

The studs are very weak on these cars. We also have 2 vendors who are doing K04 rebuilds, which includes impeller clip, port and a jet hot ceramic coating. Come on by and check out off of the info we have unlocked on these DISI engines. Its been very painstaking to say the least, but we are there.

Damn, sorry to hear, but with something like this, although knowing what to do, I'd rather take it to somebody especially with oe parts to do these things, may cost a bit more, but heck, at least if something breaks I can point my fingers and not them to me... hehe

I would have loved to do that, but my car is out of warranty, and I replaced with another one that I got a good deal on.
