Turbo cooling with oil?
I have a project that is going to use a small RHB31 Turbo, which uses both oil and water. My probelm is I'm using an external oiling system and don't want to set up an external coolant system. I have a good sized oil pump and thought I'd use it to both supply the oil feed and route the oil into the cooling jacket. I know this isn't ideal, but I figure I'd get some cooling benefit? I plan on also using a oil cooler. Anyone see any problems with this approach?

The turbo is being put on a small project motorcycle not a car. The bike is air cooled, no coolant supply available. External oil system required because the engine won't generate the proper PSI to supply the turbo. It's a 1965 CB160 Honda bored out to 175cc's.

Depending on turbo.. They have 1mm restrictor on feed line..
I fitted two Nissan VG30T turbo's to a 5.0 V8 Ford and had to fit 1mm restrictors on each turbo's feed line.. These where ball bearing.. With out the restrictor the high pressure / volume flooded the rear seal.. |

The flow on the RHB32 measured is actually what they are factory. I provided the figure so rppavlak can test his into a container. I guess then he can work out if he needs a banjo with a smaller hole or inline restrictor.

Hi, my first post, here you go, I do this a lot on air cooled Porsches, I tee off from the oil supply to the turbo oil to cool the coolant side, it works perfectly, specially if you are using Garrett ball bearing units (GT's)., cheers, Sonny.
