Whats the upgrade for Supra MAF?

I have been hearing that people use SC 430 Lexus MAF sensor as an upgrade on the MarkIII Turbo / 7m-gte. Whats the advantage and has anybody used this? Just looking at the stock MAF it seems restrictive. Currently Im still running the CT-26 but looking to upgrade in the future. Any help would be apprectiated!

Lots of nitrous is for people who like Hiding there head..... under hoods.....in car doors..... in trunks..... this gives them a chance to offer there ass to any takers

The upgrade for 7MGTE is actualy the AFM from an LS/SC/GS 400 years vary by model, but 90-94 is close enough.
It's aprox. 22-25% larger internaly. With both in hand, the stock units outer diam. will slide into the LS4OO piece
If you add this mod,you must .... either, have a fuel computer,or,add 550cc inj. ,or preferably both.
More air needs more fuel to keep the A/F ratio on track.

<---Has run with a ct26 and currently on a to4,and on the next to4

Cool thanks....that unit (90-94) needs 550cc injectors but is that too large for a stock turbo and/or fuel pump?

Local,good friend ..... 60 trim ct26,Lex AFM,550's,no tuning,3" from turbo back,decent intercooler and piping = 28x-whp at 9psi.

It does sound like opinion but Im trying to do it right.... my car has a 2mm HKS head gasket and ARP head studs. Im trying to cover the bases. Sounds good, I have HKS Dragger exhaust, test pipe and down pipe on order and getting anxious! Thanks!

right now i am wondering why you are running a 2mm head gasket... if you have no mods on your car right now you are losing power... not criticizing you just pointing out the obvious...

now to your question... the ls/gs/sc 400 AFMs will work as an upgrade

as for people saying what you do and do not need dont listen to them... listen to me... get yourself a nice wideband a/f ratio gauge... this way you can monitor if you go rich or lean with the addition of the new afm... the mods that i did associated to the afm mod were the lexus afm, 550s, hks fcon and it all worked fairly well

Look on 7mpower.com, quite a few people on there are making good numbers using the Lexus AFM. 550's might be excessive for a stock type set up, but I'm sure it can be tuned to work.

Yea...from what I understand the 550's kinda idle poopy..and the Fcon or something similar (I've even seen people using AFC's) to help out with the fuel control to help trim them out. A logging AFR would seem a must if you went the budget route.

You should just get an FCD... people selling the lexus MAF's tend to think they are worth their weight in gold... Yes the lexus MAF is bigger, but the purpose of it is to be able to "trick" the ecu into allowing you to boost higher. The lexus MAF is bigger diameter, so the karman vortex sensor reads slower air flow... and all it does is allow you to boost higher without hitting fuel cut... but not much.

On the 7MGTE, boost is limited/measured by the airflow meter. Your best bet, at your level, is just get an HKS FCD or similar. This modifies the airflow meter readings of your stock air flow meter. It allows you to boost to 20+ pounds... Its cheap. even cheaper than an LS400 afm, you'll get about 100+ horse by upping the boost on your ct26...

uh huh ... and have you melt a piston while you are at it... when are you newbie mkiii guys ever going to learn to modify a car correctly... you are damaging the car when you do this... you are modifying the jimmy rigged way... cheaply... the lexus afm is a step up from the 7m being jimmy rigged... i will admit that my lexus afm is a jimmy rig... but at least its a jimmy rig that i can tune and make the a/f ratio correct and not damage anything... the best way to go is still the MAFT-Pro however on the stock computer
